I also don't have to buy software with DRM. So if DRM is pointless, what's the point of locking your door? It's easily broken, and someone determined enough to get in, can easily do so. Locking your door doesn't protect you any more than DRM protects Microsoft's software. Yes, but why do you want to? Are you doing it to protect yourself? Are you doing it to protect your possessions? Maybe you just think it's fun to lock and unlock your door?

There are hardcore pirates who have no reservations about using torrent sites to download cracked software, and then there are people who think that it's okay to copy software to a flash drive to give to their friend/coworker without paying for an additional license. I've been shafted by DRM many times, and actually had to pirate a product to fix bad implementations of it, and never purchased a product because of it. You need to provide me a statistic for that. The number of people who bought the software because of DRM is probably greater than the number of people who got shafted because of it. Just because a system isn't perfect doesn't mean it's worthless. I may be liable if the things are stolen, but I'm not required to lock the doors on my property, outside of some specific circumstance. The door company isn't making me.Įven if I'm renting a furnished apartment I am not required to lock the door. I lock the front door because I want to lock the door I bought. Why do you lock your front door? It doesn't stop a would-be robber from breaking in (they could easily break your window), and causes you grief on cold days while you fumble with your keychain.
